THE NEW OFF-ROAD TERYX SIDE-BY-SIDES FROM KAWASAKI
Kawasaki’s Teryx and Teryx4 lines of recreational side-by-sides return with new models for 2023.
With new audio systems, a Powersport winch, and new color schemes, Kawasaki is bringing updates to the two-passenger Teryx and four-passenger Teryx 4 side-by-sides.
Both series run on V-twin fuel-injected 783cc engines to take on challenging terrain and pull their 1,300-pound towing capacity. Speed-sensitive electronic power steering gives the new models a tight turning radius, while the FOX 2.0 LSC piggyback shocks provide a smoother ride. The side-by-sides are also built with a double-X steel tube welded frame, an all-steel front brush guard, and low-maintenance, sealed rear wet brakes.

Polaris Side-by-Sides Are Going Factory Racing
With its announcement, we’re seeing a step in the right direction. Polaris unveiled a factory racing program (rather than factory support for a private team, as is the industry norm) which launches alongside a purpose-built RZR racing UTV. The Polaris team roped in a trio of rising stars—Austin Weiland, Brock Heger, and Cayden MacCachren—who will pilot these factory backed UTVs.
You’ll be able to catch the new factory RZR and its drivers in SCORE International events like the San Felipe 250 and of course, the Baja 400, 500, and 1000. That last race runs from November 13-18. If you haven’t made the pilgrimage to Baja for the ultimate off-road racing event, well, you aren’t getting any younger.
We haven’t received a look at the new UTV just yet—that’s set to be unveiled next week on March 15th, but it’s mere existence feels like a good omen. Generally, factory tech that survives the crucible of racing trickles its way down to showroom floors. At least, that’s how the marketing for automobiles goes.
But with go-fast UTVs, which are free from over-regulation and generally used exclusively for dicking around off-road, we expect meaningful interplay between a factory racing effort and showroom models. That means if you’re looking for an off-road rig with real homologation cred, Polaris should have you better covered than ever in the near future.

Honda reveals returning ATVs and side-by-sides
Honda has announced the return of its versatile side-by-sides and ATVs for the 2023 model year. Honda’s smallest side-by-sides, the Pioneer 520 and Pioneer 500, are back for the 2023 model year, touting strong performance and exceptional value. Honda also announced its first unveilings of the 2024 model year, including the FourTrax Foreman, Foreman Rubicon and Rancher families, each of which comprises several trim levels. Honda’s FourTrax lineup is ideal for both work and play, and these ATVs are now available in new colors.
“We’re pleased to confirm the return of our Pioneer 520 and 500 side-by-sides, as well as three families from our FourTrax ATV range,” said Brandon Wilson, manager of Sports & Experiential, American Honda. “These vehicles share the ability to perform work on the ranch, farm or worksite, while also being trail-ready for the weekends, embracing the do-it-all ethos of multipurpose powersports.”
2023 Honda Pioneer 520 Krypton Green
Purpose-built to get more done and have more fun, Honda’s Pioneer 520 is ready to check tasks off the “to-do” list. Its narrow chassis dimensions unlock access to width-restricted trails, but this little rec/utility side-by-side is far more capable than its size might suggest. Its reliable 518cc engine is up to the job, and the independent front and rear suspension ensures comfort and control across varied terrain. The dump bed handles up to 450 pounds of tools, supplies or equipment, and a wide range of available Honda Pro-Connect™ accessories offer additional cargo solutions for both work and play. Fun, rugged, reliable and U.S.-designed and -manufactured, the Pioneer 520 is truly multipurpose—a great side-by-side for the family farm.

POWERSPORT WINCH
Coming standard on the Teryx4 S Special Edition models, the WARN VRX 35 Powersport winch is built with premium components, and special molded for the Teryx. The winch has a durable 7/23-inch wire rope with 3,500-pound capacity.
A load-holding roller disc brake offers control, and the three-stage planetary gear train helps with smooth, efficient operation of the winch. The winch has a dash-mounted rocker control switch, complemented by a corded remote.
The Teryx4 S Special Edition is built with a high-grade audio system in the center console. The stereo features AM/FM, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports, all powered by a four-channel 160-watt amplifier.
A pair of 6.5-inch two-way waterproof speakers are mounted in composite enclosures below the dash and are complemented by two 4-inch two-way waterproof speakers built in the dashboard. The enclosures help protect against the elements encountered while out on the trails.
The stereo system controller includes an LCD screen with backlit controls, and large waterproof buttons that can still be operated while wearing gloves.

Honda Pioneer Side-By-Sides Return for 2022 to Haunt America’s Trails and Forests
After back in November, it announced the availability of the Pioneer 500 and 520, Honda now completes the picture by saying the 1000 and 700 will return as well, with improvements where improvements were due.
“When it comes to rec/utility side-by-sides, Honda has the needs of every powersports customer covered,” said in a statement Brandon Wilson, American Honda Manager of Sports & Experiential.
“The Pioneer 1000 is the most technology-laden flagship rec/utility platform on the market, and it’s even better now, thanks to important upgrades. Best of all, the new Trail and Forest versions deliver even more enjoyment for customers seeking specific experiences. Add in the returning Pioneer 700, plus the previously announced Pioneer 520 and 500, and you have an unbeatable lineup. For 2022, life is even better side-by-side.”
The Pioneer 1000 will be available in Trail, Forest, Deluxe and EPS versions, the first meant for “dynamic outdoor excursions with family and friends,” and the second ideal for hunting and fishing trips. All come in either three- or five-people configuration, making for a very extensive lineup to choose from.
Pricing for the upcoming range starts at $16,699 for the 1000 EPS and can go as high as $21,499 for the Trail and Forest variants meant for five people. All refreshed Pioneer 1000 models should be available in dealership as soon as next month.
The 700, on the other hand, is much cheaper than any of the 1000 members, selling for $11,099 for the standard version.

Polaris shows off test vehicles for electric ATVs, RZR side-by-side, and even electric snowmobile
Polaris isn’t simply paying lip service when it talks about the future of electrification in powersports. The Minnesota-based leader in powersports vehicles has already unveiled its first next-gen electric UTV and now has shown off several test vehicles for electric Polaris ATVs, side-by-sides, and snowmobiles.
Last year was full of carefully titrated leaks and teasers surrounding the highly anticipated all-new electric RANGER UTV from Polaris.
The work was made possible through a partnership with Zero Motorcycles that saw Zero’s electric powertrain combined with Polaris’s vehicle expertise and is expected to result in even more models in the future.
Unveiled in December as the new RANGER XP Kinetic, the new model was described by Polaris as the most powerful UTV on the market, gas or electric. Polaris is set to begin deliveries this year after the new EV sold out within hours of its launch.
Polaris certainly sees electrification as part of its growth strategy, as the company explained:
We listen and learn directly from our customers to deliver high-quality products, experiences, and services that matter most to them. While innovation has been part of our DNA from the beginning, our electrification and connected vehicle initiatives represent an incredible opportunity to exceed customers’ expectations in powersports and the recent launch of the Ranger XP Kinetic is the first example of how we plan to lead in these areas.
But the company isn’t stopping there. At a recent investor meeting, Polaris revealed additional images of electric test vehicles that could represent the next stage in electrification at Polaris.
Despite making it clear that these were test vehicles and “not vehicles that Polaris has committed to bring to market at this time,” it’s quite obvious that Polaris is at least keenly interested in exploring the direction.
